Calder Prize to benefit artists and museums

The Calder Foundation has announced plans to establish a biennial award of $50,000 for a work of art that the foundation will donate to a public institution. Alexander C. Rower, the artist’s grandson who heads the New York-based foundation, says winners will be selected from recent residents at Atelier Calder, the six-month artist’s residency programme, sponsored by the French federal and local government and under the presidency of Pompidou Centre director Alfred Pacquement, at Calder’s house and studio in the Loire Valley village of Saché. The current artist-in-residence is Mark Dion.
